Curriculum and Program Design

Curriculum

Kids Under Construction Preschool uses Handwriting without Tears as our writing curriculum.  We have a comprehensive academic and Christian curriculum that has been developed using current educational strategies as well as time tested principles. Each month additional resources are evaluated for use for the director’s resource center.

The KUC curriculum is outlined each month in the newsletter. The academic areas we focus on are:

  • recognition of upper and lower case letters
  • numbers
  • shapes
  • colors
  • beginning reading and phonics awareness
  • written formation of letters and numbers
  • patterning
  • beginning math skills

The curriculum is differentiated to meet the needs of each individual child.

Program Design

Monthly themes corresponding to the seasons and time of year are introduced.  Each month, we focus on a specific Bible verse, helping the children to develop an awareness of kindness, friendship, and love in each of their lives.  The topics are chosen for their appropriateness and coincide with the lessons and activities that are going on in the class.

Our teachers provide opportunities for work and play, independence and cooperation, and playful learning. Each day includes music, stories and rhymes or finger plays, art activities, independent and group play, teacher instruction, outdoor play and time with manipulatives and educational toys. The teachers include learning modalities; visual, auditory, sensory, and kinesthetic methods in their lessons.

The children attend Music Class twice a month.  Here they are able to learn through dance, song, and movement all while having fun with their peers!    Twice a month, we also enjoy Kid’s Worship with Pastor Linda in the Sanctuary.  She teaches us the importance of loving our neighbor, ourselves, and the Lord.Save
